Cedar Falls gets new tools to fight speeding

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) - Cedar Falls Police have new tools in the fight against speeding.  The police department received a $12,000.00 grant from the Black Hawk County Gaming Association. The money was used to purchase 4 patrol car radar units along with a mobile speed calming "radar trailer." The total cost of the purchase was just over $17,000.00. The Black Hawk County Gaming Association grant covered 70% of the total purchase.

The equipment provided by this grant helps to replace old radar units and a radar trailer that was eleven years old. The new radar trailer has many improvements, the most important being the ability to collect and record traffic speeds and create data surveys as it is utilized on the streets and roadways of Cedar Falls. These detailed reports can be used to help inform the pubilc, elected officials, direct law enforcement efforts, and by the City's engineering department to help make decisions about traffic control devices and roadway designs.
