Cyclone offense ready to explode in 2009

AMES (KWWL) -- Defense has been an issue the past few seasons in Ames, but one remedy could be putting up big offensive numbers.  There's no doubt former Rice Offensive Coordinator Tom Herman should be the guy to help get that done.

Herman takes over an already fairly potent Cyclone offense, and plans on establishing a highly creative spread offense.  Last year at Rice that helped the Owls become a top ten productive offense nationally, and the numbers that team produced, have the Cyclone players salivating.

"Looking at the past quarterbacks that Coach Herman's had, Chase Clement last year threw for 4,100 yards and ran for 700, so that's just encouraging," says ISU signal caller Austen Arnaud, "For me, to see someone get almost 5,000 yards by himself, that's just wild to think about."

Running back Alexander Robinson agrees.  "The thing that makes this offense so great, especially under Coach Herman, is that on any given play every person is a threat.  You can't just focus on one or two players here and there.  Every person out there is a threat, so the defense always has to be on guard."

The Cyclones kick off against North Dakota State on August 27.
