Experienced Hawks look to pick up where they left off

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- Hard tackling and great pursuit have always been the norm for Norm...Parker that is.  The longtime Hawkeye Defensive Coordinator knows what makes a good defense, and he believes he's got one this year.

The Hawkeyes lose some talent, but they also bring back a pretty experienced group on the defensive side of the ball.  That experience is key according to Parker, because as long as the players learned through that, they should be that much better one year later.

"I think that's the role of every kid on the team.  You should be better  this year than you were last year," says Parker, "You're a year older, you're a year bigger, a year stronger, and you should be hopefully a year smarter, so I think that's the challenge."

Senior linebacker A.J. Edds agrees.  "This group of seniors needs to learn from last year's group of seniors.  We need to see how we came together when we were sitting at 3 and 3, see what we did to make sure we didn't end up having a 6 and 6 kind of year."

The Hawkeye defense ranked tops in the Big Ten last season allowing just 13 points per game.
