BURLINGTON (AP)--A Burlington man has been sentenced to five years probation for a crash that killed a passenger in his sport utility vehicle.
Forty-year-old Sean Persing lost control of his SUV on Oct. 5, 2008, as he was leaving the 34 Raceway near Burlington. The vehicle crashed into the ditch and a passenger, 49-year-old Ricky Turner, died a short time later at a local hospital.
Authorities say tests showed Persing's blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.
Persing pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide in June.
Prosecutors had sought a 10-year prison sentence, but Judge Cynthia Danielson suspended the prison term and sentenced Persing to probation during a hearing Monday in Des Moines County District Court.
