Winds knock out power across Iowa

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - Strong winds knocked out power to thousands across Iowa.

The National Weather Service says the storms that hit Sunday night and early Monday brought golf ball sized hail, heavy rain and damaging winds.

Shortly before 11:30 a.m. Monday, Alliant Energy had the power back on to all but 78 customers, down from more than 10,000 in its coverage area that includes Marshalltown, Cedar Rapids and Clinton.

MidAmerican Energy had about 3,500 customers without power at one point, most in the Des Moines area.

In north central Iowa, large trees and power lines are down in Fort Dodge, while a tree hit a house in Humboldt.

No injuries have been reported.
