LARCHWOOD (AP)--An Iowa man is suing the South Dakota city of Canton in federal court over a bar fight two years ago.
Sixty-seven-year-old Dennis Kohrt of Larchwood says an employee at the bar that was owned by the city at the time did not respond properly to threatening behavior by another customer that led to a fight Nov. 29, 2007.
City Manager Amy Nelson referred questions to City Attorney Larry Nelson, who did not immediately return a telephone call Monday.
Kohrt seeks to recoup the $340,000 in medical expenses he says he incurred as a result of the incident. He says he spent six weeks in a coma and he has been unable to continue his work as a carpenter.
A jury in August 2008 found Roger Love of Sioux Falls not guilty of aggravated assault in the case.
