Waterloo singer set to release Christian album

by Danielle Wagner

WATERLOO (KWWL) Dante' Marcellous of Waterloo can sing, and he chooses to sing Christian music.

His new album, Christ Music, comes out August 9th.

"It's totally gospel music and it's very fun and energetic and it's motivational," said Marcellous.

With his business partner Travis Lloyd, Dante' Marcellous started "Band of Chrisitians." They travel the country speaking to and performing for at-risk youth.

Marcellous said young people don't have a lot of faith-based music to listen to. He also wanted to break the stereotype that religious music has to be preachy or boring. He said his music is like any other song on the radio except the lyrics motivate and inspire.

"I'm totally sold out on the Christian mission. I want to see kids influenced by the music and the culture and our culture is in such detriment and we need somebody to stand up and be that positive rold model for the children. They need to see somebody that looks like them, sounds like them, but is bringing something different than they're used to hearing," said Marcellous.

Marcellous set a high goal for his first, full-length Christian album.

"My goal for the album is to sell at least one million records independently and to be the first Chrisitan artist to ever do so," he said.

Marcellous' brother produced the album and helped write more than half the songs.

The almost 25-year-old hopes his music is the push some youth need to get their life on the right track.

"The message I really want people to take away is dare to dream. If you believe it, you can achieve it. People are going to say a lot of things. One of the things I talk about on my album is they said it couldn't be done, but it surely can," said Marcellous.

You can hear Dante' Marcellous perform at a few upcoming events featuring. Friday, August 7 at UNI's Gallagher Bluedorn performing arts center in Cedar Falls. At 7 p.m. there is a concert free to the public featuring a local community children's choir.

Saturday, August 8 also at Gallagher, the Grammy nominated gospel trio "Trin-i-tee 5:7" will perform at 7 p.m. Marcellous will open for the group.

Sunday, August 9 there is a release party of Dante's new Christ Music album. The party is at 4 p.m. at Union Missionary Baptist Church. It's free and open to the public.
