17th annual Ride and Stride in Cedar Falls

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) --People in Cedar Falls grabbed their walking shoes and bikes to exercise for a cause.

About 200 people participated in the 17th annual Ride and Stride.

The $40,000 raised will help the Cedar Valley Hospice programs.

The hospice programs' mission is to help the terminally ill and their families, but organizers point out that hospice has some programs that have less funds than others.

"We have many programs that aren't reimbursed by Medicare such as our program for HIV and AIDS clients.  Those that are not eligible for Hospice and then one of the biggest is our grief services that are open and available to anyone in the community,"Cedar Valley Hospice Director of Advancement Mary Alfrey said.

Bikers rode 10 to 40 miles, and those on foot walked two to five miles.
