Gunman surrenders to Benton County authorities


SHELLSBURG (KWWL) - An armed man surrendered to Benton County Authorities after a standoff that lasted more than six hours.

Police arrested Eugene Condon when he surrendered to the Iowa State Tactical Team.

Just after 5 p.m. authorities surrounded a home near Harbert St. and 32nd Ave.

The Department of Public Safety says Condon was in the house, alone, with firearms. 
Condon shot a gun off numerous time.

Police say Condon said he lost his job and was having financial troubles.

No injuries were reported.

Eight nearby houses were evacuated as a precaution while negotiators worked to end the situation without injuries.
