Local dancers win national competition


CORALVILLE (KWWL) - Local dancers from the Nolte Academy of Dance in Coralville won two national championships and placed highly in several categories at last week's Ultimate Dance National Competition in Mason, OH.   

Dances who qualified throughout the year at regional competitions were invited to the 5 day national competition.  Over 50 studios from around the country and 40 local dancers from Nolte Academy's Affect Performing Company participated. 

The five days of dance concluded with two groups receiving the highest scores.  Taking home the championships in the Junior Teen Large Group for a piece entitled "What a World" choreographed by Leslie Nolte performed by Taylor Austin, Courtney Bode, Shannon Boseneiler, Miranda Decker, Mallory Gillispie, Olivia Kealey, Kathryn Smith, Boun Stalkfleet, Paige Tomson and Rylee Villhauer  and Petite Duet / Trio for the dance "Strut" performed by Elle Bode and Kaitlyn Klosterman, choreographed by Kelsey Epner.  

In a news release Leslie Nolte, company director and studio owner, commented on the winning team.  "I think we proved this week that our dancers are as talented and technically sound as any others in the nation.  Their hard work and dedication all year is what got them this far, I couldn't be prouder of them."
