UNI-Dome groundbreaking in 1974

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- A groundbreaking for a new athletics center at the University of Northern Iowa was held July 26, 1974.

The $7.5 million structure was finished in 1976.  Main seating accommodates 16,000 people.  It is climate controlled throughout the year, maintaining 72 degree temperatures.

The original fabric roof weighed 94 tons and it came down as a result of weather and power outages three times before being replaced by steel.
