Kee High cruises to 1A semis

DES MOINES-Fourth-ranked Kee scored six runs in the second inning en route to a xx-x victory over Tri-County at Principal Park on Saturday night in the final Class 1A first-round game. The Hawks will meet Lenox in the semifinals on Thursday.

Kee scored six runs on four hits and three walks in the second. The Hawks added 11 runs on four hits, six walks and one error in the third.

Tri-County got its first hit when Isik Schmidt slugged a double off the left-field wall to lead off the fourth. The Trojans scored their only run in the inning.

Coady Heiderscheit, Luke Gavin and Jacob Milton had two hits each for Kee. Milton drove in five runs and Jon Heiderscheit four.

Kee starter Tom Kerndt (18-0) no-hit the Trojans in his three innings.

Kee - seeking a 10th state championship - advances at 39-6. Tri-County - making its first state tournament appearances - ends at 19-7.
