Neb. man sentenced to time served in dog dumping

GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA (AP) -- A Grand Island man who helped an Iowa woman cover up the dumping of dead and dying dogs in a cornfield has been sentenced to time served, or 217 days.

Fifty-one-year-old Roland Bowling, also known as Ronald Lancaster, was sentenced in Hall County District Court on Friday after pleading no contest to two counts of misdemeanor false reporting. Bowling gave sheriff's investigators false information during their investigation of Denise K. Withee of Mapleton, Iowa.

The 46-year-old Withee is to be sentenced in September on three counts of felony cruel neglect of animals.

The charges against Bowling and Withee came after three dying dogs and 20 dead dogs were found in a cornfield north of Grand Island in July 2008. The three dogs that were found alive later died.
