Dubuque standoff ends peacefully

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) -- Authorities say a standoff between police and a suicidal man in Dubuque ended peacefully after he surrendered.

Police say after nearly two hours of negotiations on Thursday, 38-year-old John Daniel walked out of his house. He was taken to a hospital.

Police Lt. Scott Baxter says Daniel's wife called police Wednesday night to tell them her husband threatened to harm himself. She called again on Thursday, and police found him at home.

Baxter says John Daniel indicated he had a gun.

Police blocked off the area. A negotiator was called in, and Daniel eventually walked outside and surrendered without incident. Police say Daniel did not have a gun.
