Federal charges filed in Iowa City bank robbery

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- State charges have been dropped in leiu of federal warrants issued in a recent bank robbery.

Police had arrested 19-year old Charles Curry of North Liberty and charged him with 1st degree robbery. He was transferred into federal custody on Thursday.

Curry was in the surveillance video and police also recognized him from previous contacts. Police say Curry went into the bank and talked with a teller, then left the bank. A second man walked into the bank, displayed a gun and demanded money.

The robber was seen leaving the area in a gold-colored car with two other people inside.

Later on Monday, Curry used some of the serialized money taken during the bank robbery to post a personal bond at the Johnson County Jail. Curry and others then used additional serialized money to shop at several Coralville businesses including Gordmans, Hat World and WalMart.
