Iowa Winter Games returning to Dubuque through 2012

DUBUQUE (KWWL) - At least 3000 athletes and their families, from more than 60 Iowa counties, are expected to converge on Dubuque for the 17th annual Winter Iowa Games January 29-31, 2010.

Loras College announces that they will continue to provide their annual local sponsorship to the Winter Iowa Games for another three year agreement, which greatly contributes to the Winter Iowa Games returning to Dubuque for the 2010-2012 Games.

According to Loras President Jim Collins, "Loras College is proud to be a partner in bringing the Winter Iowa Games back to Dubuque for another 3 years. The Winter Iowa Games provide over 3,000 amateur athletes an avenue for positive personal development through sports and physical activities as well as encourage sportsmanship on and off the field of play. Loras College welcomes athletes onto our campus each year and supports this event as a positive reinforcement of the same values that the College upholds. We are pleased that these athletes get a chance to play in the games and experience Loras College Campus first hand during their weekend visit to Dubuque."

"The Winter Iowa Games creates a $2.6 million economic impact on the Dubuque region through the 6000 visitors. It comes at the perfect time of year. The Games bring a lot of recognition to the area and we are thrilled to host this event each year." states Keith Rahe, Director of the Dubuque Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and Dubuque Regional Sports Commission.
