Iowa Speedway races to benefit flood recovery in eastern Iowa

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - Two major stock car races in Iowa will help raise money for flood recovery for the city of Cedar Rapids.  During the U.S. Cellular 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series August 1st and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series September 5th, monetary donations will be collected with all proceeds directed to the Greater Cedar Rapids Foundation: Jobs and Small Business Recovery Fund.

In a news release, Larry Blixt, Director Corporate Relations, Iowa Speedway said, "Drive to Recovery is an excellent opportunity for Iowa Speedway to offer assistance to Eastern Iowans as they continue to rebuild from the devastating floods of 2008. These two races combined will exceed 100,000 in attendance, drawing fans from across the country."

Approximately 25 volunteers will work each event collecting donations and distributing information about our community.

"Our goal is to not only raise money for the Job and Small Business Fund, but to educate fans about the unmet needs of this community.  We are very grateful to Iowa Speedway for their generosity", states Shannon Meyer, President, Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce.
