UPDATE: Pilot is thankful nobody was hurt in emergency landing

Posted:

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- A single-engine bi-plane made an emergency landing on North 1st Avenue in Iowa City just before noon.

Iowa City police say the only damage is to a street sign. The only occupant on the plane was a Florida man, identified as Ron Miller, and he was not injured.

The plane was partially blocking southbound traffic on 1st Ave. It was taken by truck to the Iowa City Airport.

Miller tells KWWL that he was flying to Long Island, New York when his engine failed.

Miller said his main concern was a number of people walking near First Avenue.

When he landed he had to swerve to avoid hitting a van on the road.

Miller told us that he is thankful nobody was hurt.
