Man admits embezzling from southern Ill. bank

BENTON, Ill. (AP) -- Sentencing is scheduled this fall for a man who admits embezzling $63,000 from a southern Illinois bank branch where he served as manager.

Thirty-year-old Scott Harris of Vienna pleaded guilty to misapplication of money by a bank employee.

Federal prosecutors say Harris managed the Regions Bank branch in Goreville between January 2006 and April of last year.

Harris told investigators he took the money to pay bills and other obligations.

Harris faces up to 30 years in prison, $1 million in fines, restitution and supervised release when sentenced Oct. 19 in Benton.
