High salt diet

A diet high in salt appears to reduce the effectiveness of blood pressure medication.

An estimated 20 to 30-percent of people with high blood pressure are resistant to drugs that treat hypertension.

Researchers in Australia compared blood pressure measurements among people who reduced their salt intake to just a half teaspoon a day to those who had as much as 2 and a half teaspoons a day.

The lower sodium group had lower blood pressure measurements after just 7 days.
