Kernels beat Great Lakes 9-5

MIDLAND, MI-Anel De Los Santos delivered a three run double in the top of the ninth inning to send the Kernels to a 9-5 win over the Great Lakes Loon on Sunday afternoon at the Dow Diamond in Midland, MI. The double gave the Kernels a four run cushion and secured the win for Kernels starter Manuel Flores (6-4).

Flores allowed four runs on six hits and struck out five over seven innings. Nick Pugliese allowed an unearned run and struck out two over an inning of relief and Andrew Taylor allowed a hit and struck out three in the bottom of the ninth. Great Lakes starter Justin Miller (5-6) allowed five runs on nine hits over four innings in taking the loss.

Every position player reached base as the Kernels pounded out 13 hits. Anel De Los Santos finished 2-5 with two doubles and 5 RBI and Alexi Amarista was 2-5 with a double, 2 RBI and a stolen base. Beau Brooks and Dwayne Bailey were both 2-5 with a double; Angel Castillo was 2-3 with an RBI; and Darwin Perez added an RBI. Nick Buss homered in his second consecutive game against the Kernels and had 2 RBI.
