Cedar Falls landmark cut down

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- A natural landmark in Cedar Falls is changed forever.

The four trunked tree on 18th St. and Tremont now has no branches or leaves.

The 84-year-old tree is four trees grafted together.

After being severely damaged in the storm about a week ago, the owners discovered the tree was rotting.

Professionals told the owners the tree would probably fall down anywhere from six months to five years from now.

"Its very sad to be the owners now," said Sarah Olsen, one of the current owners. "We're the 19th owners and we have to be the people that have this instance."

The owners are hoping new branches will grow back in place of what was rotted.
