City ordinance expands open container law

GARNER (KWWL) -- Police in Garner can now test teens for alcohol-possession even if they don't see any cans, bottles or other containers in sight.

A new ordinance in the small town near Mason City says that a teen that tests positive for alcohol would be considered in-possession of it because alcohol was in their system.

The Garner city council approved the ordinance Wednesday night.  The Hancock county board of supervisors has passed a similar ordinance and is expected to approve it later this month.
