Iowa slaughterhouse child labor trial pushed back

WATERLOO (AP) -- The former owner and managers of a kosher slaughterhouse in Postville involved in a massive immigration raid last May won't stand trial on child labor charges until 2010.

The case was scheduled to go to trial Aug. 4. Both sides had asked for more time, and Judge Nate Callahan granted that request in a hearing Tuesday.

A trial date hasn't been set. A hearing on the status of the case is scheduled for Jan. 6, 2010.

The Iowa Attorney General<s Office has filed more than 9,000 charges against a group of former Agriprocessors workers that included plant owner Abraham Aaron Rubashkin and former plant manager Sholom Rubashkin.

Prosecutors say the group hired minors and had children younger than 16 years old handling dangerous equipment.
