Election Reminder to Palo Residents Displaced by the Flood

PALO (NEWS RELEASE) -- The Linn County Auditor's Office would like to remind displaced Palo residents of the following:

Until you have established a permanent residence, your voter registration address can be that of your evacuated home.

This means that Palo residents who are still displaced from their homes due to the Flood of 2008, and intend to return to Palo, are eligible to register and vote in the upcoming Palo Special Election on August 4. This information applies to those registering for the first time and to previously registered voters.

Eligible voters in the Palo Special Election must have a voter registration address that is within the city limits of Palo. Any false statement from a voter about their eligibility for an election is a criminal offense.

New registrations and address changes must be submitted in writing. To register to vote, to change a residential address or to add a mailing address, please submit a voter registration form to the following address:

Iowa Voter Registration forms can be obtained by the following methods:

  • 1. Download a form from the Linn County Auditor's website: www.linncounty.org/auditor
  • 2. Stop by the Linn County Election Services office at Linn County West, 2500 Edgewood Rd SW.
  • 3. Call or email the Linn County Auditor's Office at 892-5300 or elections@linncounty.org and request a form.

Voters in the Linn County City of Palo will vote August 4, 2009, on whether to establish a municipal waterworks utility for the city. Absentee ballots for this special election are available now in the Election Services Office at Linn County West, 2500 Edgewood Rd. SW.
