Coach Thomas' son accepts A-P Athletic Director job

Posted:

PARKERSBURG (KWWL) -- Aaron Thomas, son of legendary head football coach Ed Thomas, has accepted the position of Athletic Director at Aplington-Parkersburg High School.

Aaron told KWWL he's excited about the new challenge and he's excited about living closer to his mother.

Thirty-year-old Thomas is leaving Union High in La Porte City, where he served as the athletic director and boys basketball coach.

Thomas says it was a tough decision to leave Union but that Aplington-Parkersburg has always been a special place to his family.

Former assistants Al Kerns and John Wiegmann will serve as co-head coaches next season. Aaron Thomas says he won't coach football.

Aaron's father and long-time coach Ed Thomas was shot in the temporary A-P weight room on June 24.
