Plant closing in Grundy Center

GRUNDY CENTER (KWWL) - One of Grundy County's larger employers will soon be shutting down. NCM officials say the manufacturing plant at the end of summer. NCM makes air filtration components for some vans, semis and construction vehicles like "Bobcats". The economic downturn, a drop in construction, and the decline of General Motors all played a part in the plant closure. NCM has been a fixture along Highway 14 in Grundy Center for 49 years.

Company officials say the building will "probably be put up for sale" after the plant closes around the end of summer. There's no set date because the company continues to fill some orders from clients but not enough, they say, to keep going. All 86 workers will lose their jobs.

State officials will be at the plant July 29th to help them go over their options. County economic development officials say they're still unsure exactly how the closure will play out but they say the building could be attractive for companies looking to move in to the area. They say companies are more likely to go after existing buildings and NCM's building should be adaptable.
