VP meeting with U.S., Iraqi leaders

BAGHDAD (AP) - Vice President Joe Biden is set to meet with Iraq's leaders to discuss the future of the U.S. mission there.

He's expected to press Iraqi leaders to make more progress on reconciliation and other political issues. He arrived yesterday as violence continues to flare in the Iraqi capital in recent weeks.

It's Biden's first visit to Baghdad since being named to oversee the Obama administration's Iraq policy. It comes days after all U.S. combat troops withdrew from Iraqi cities and towns.

Next up for the U.S. is a gradual drawdown of forces over the coming months. The goal is pulling out all American combat troops by next August.

Biden has already been consulting this morning with the top U.S. officials in Iraq. They've been discussing the security situation in Iraq and the capabilities of Iraq forces.
