$700,000 in Medical Research Grants for the U of I


WASHINGTON, D.C. (KWWL) - The Department of Health and Human Services has awarded the University of Iowa two grants totaling $667,500. The grants provide funding for ground breaking vision research and mental health research.

In a release, Congressman Dave Loebsack said, "The University of Iowa is known world-wide for producing exceptional medical research...  I'm proud to announce funding to improve patient treatment options while creating and saving jobs in Eastern Iowa."

The vision research grant will focus specifically on glaucoma and is funded at $375,000.  The mental health research grant will utilize both genetic and neurological processes research and is funded at $292,500. These funds will create and save jobs in Johnson County and provide critical funds to enable the University of Iowa to continue to be a leader in medical research.
