Joe Pavelski Gets Olympic Tryout

Joe Pavelski has earned a Clark Cup championship in Waterloo, won an NCAA title with Wisconsin, and played in the NHL with the San Jose Sharks.  The next item on his resume could involve the U.S. Olympic Team.

On Tuesday, USA Hockey released the roster for its Olympic Ice Hockey Orientation Camp, including the 24-year-old former Black Hawk.  Thirty-four NHL players have been invited to the camp, which will be held at Seven Bridges Ice Arena in Woodridge, Illinois August 17-19.  The XXI Winter Olympics will be in Vancouver, February 12-28, 2010.

According to USA Hockey, "The camp is designed to assist in the preparation of the 2010 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team."

The squad will be coached by Ron Wilson, Head Coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and Pavelski's former coach in San Jose.  Team USA will have several new faces; only five players invited to the orientation camp have previous Olympic experience.

In April, Pavelski played under Wilson for the U.S. Men's National Team at the IIHF World Championships in Switzerland, scoring a goal and an assist in five games.  During his three-year NHL career, he has skated in 208 games for the Sharks, with 58 goals and 69 assists.
