Dubuque County Historical Society to hold the 45th annual Fourth of July Ice Cream Social

Dubuque, Iowa - June 25, 2009-The Dubuque County Historical Society's 45th annual Ice Cream Social is Saturday, July 4, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mathias Ham House Historic Site. The Mathias Ham House is located in downtown Dubuque at 2241 Lincoln Avenue.

This event is free and open to the public, however, donations are encouraged. All proceeds will benefit the Ham House Historic Site, a property of the Dubuque County Historical Society.

The Ice Cream Social is a community tradition and one of the tri-state area's most treasured events. Entertainment and activities include the "At the Lead Mines" living history program, live music (featuring the Broken Rubber Band), draft horses, Ham House tours, Victorian era games for children, prizes, crafts, homemade ice cream demonstrations, a Civil War musket presentation, and more!

This time-honored holiday celebration also offers a variety of picnic food staples including brats, hot dogs, BBQ pork, chips, soda, lemonade, and of course, the traditional cake and ice cream treats available for purchase on the Mathias Ham House grounds.  

The 45th annual Ice Cream Social is sponsored by US Bank. Additional support is provided by Queen B Radio, Burger King, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, Dubuque by Carriage, Hy-Vee, Schoeps Ice Cream and Arctic Glacier Ice.
