UNI-Dome deflates a second time in 1977

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- The UNI-Dome deflated for a second time June 30, 1977.  High winds, rain, and power failure caused the dome to deflate and tear.  At the time, the soft roof for the University of Northern Iowa's athletics arena was held up by air pressure.

The dome first deflated during a snowstorm while it was under construction in 1975.  It happened a third time in 1994.  In 1998, the school deflated the soft dome for good and built a hard top to ensure it wouldn't happen again.

Another event from June 30 in Iowa history was the opening of the Isle Casino in Waterloo.  That happened in 2007.
