Sentencing set in teen shooting death

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) -- A Sioux City teenager charged with shooting another teen last summer will be sentenced in July.

Seventeen-year-old Codie Kapaun is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of 16-year-old Ryan Blanchard last August.

Kapaun will enter a plea and face sentencing on July 27.

Police say Kapaun and Blanchard were hanging out on Aug. 11, 2008, when Kapaun pointed a .38 caliber handgun at Blanchard and fired.

Blanchard was hit in the head. He died the next day.

Court records show Kapaun told investigators that she thought the gun was empty or that the safety was on.
