Restroom pavillion fire was intentionally set

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - A Monday afternoon fire that heavily damaged the roof of a restroom pavilion in Cedar Valley Park was intentionally set. The fire was reported at 1:04 p.m. by two women who saw light smoke coming from a roof vent of the park restroom building. Upon further investigation, the women could see flames showing from above the men's restroom door.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find that the fire had spread into the roof rafters. Fire crews worked to quickly extinguish the flames and needed to cut holes into the roof to check for fire spread. The fire originated just above the men's restroom door frame. Firefighters also found toilet tissue on fire at the scene.

Cedar Valley Park is located near Blakely Boulevard and Otis Road SE in Cedar Rapids. The investigation into the fire continues.
