Mines of Spain hosting several nature events


DUBUQUE (KWWL) --The Mines of Spain State Recreation Area is hosting several nature events for kids and adults alike the week of July 11 - July 19.

Here is a schedule of events:

Saturday, July 11 -- 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. -- Nature Day for Kids (Creepy Crawlies).  A naturalist will explain insects and spiders.  Bring a clean 20 oz. bottle with a cap to make an insect cage.

Saturday, July 11 -- 2:30 p.m. -- All ages invited for a 1.5 mile hike with the staff Naturalist at the E.B. Lyons Interpretive Center.

Sunday, July 12 -- 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. -- Annual Butterfly Count for all ages.  Come dressed in long pands and closed-toed shoes and meet at Hunter's Parking Lot (2nd from South Entrance).

Saturday, July 18 -- 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. -- Nature Day for Kids (1st - 5th grades).  Learn about animal tracks.  Bring a solid, light colored t-shirt or bandana to make a special animal tracks craft.

Saturday, July 18 -- 2:30 p.m. -- Hike Horshoe Bluff Trail with a Naturalist.  Hike is one mile.

Sunday, July 19 -- 1:00 p.m.- 3:00 p.m. -- Canoe Trip.  Meet at the Catfish Creek Canoe Launch.  Canoes, life jackets, and a lesson will be provided.  Bring a water bottle and sunscreen.
