DNR investigating fish kill in Clayton Co.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says biologists are investigating a fish kill on three to four miles of Buck Creek in Clayton County.

The department said Sunday that the fish kill was reported Saturday at a county park near Garnavillo in northeastern Iowa. Officials say the fish kill includes trout, but that biologists were conducting a count of dead fish in the water.

Authorities say a department environmental specialist found an area where it appears there was a chemical spill into the stream. They also say there is an open cattle lot where manure may have entered the creek.

The investigation includes water and soil samples taken from the area for analysis.
