Search for CR murder suspect continues

Cedar Rapids Police continue to hunt for a murder suspect after a shooting at an apartment complex.

Witnesses say it happened during a dice game.

They say about 5 or 6 shots rang out around 6:30p.m. Friday night at the Cedarwood Hills Apartments in the 2000 block of Glass Rd. NE.

Police say 22-year-old Dominique Mosby died of gunshot wounds after being taken to St. Luke's Hospital.

People who live in or near the apartments say a police presence is not uncommon.

They say after the shooting death they're afraid for themselves and for the many children who live here.

"Every other day there's fights. This morning there were 5 people, last week there were 30. It's ridiculous," said one unidentified resident.

Another resident heard the shots and saw people run away.

He says it's the 2nd time he's heard gunshots in the last week.

Police say they received 3 reports of shots fired at the complex in the last week.

One report turned out to be true.

The other 2 turned out to be fireworks.

Still, police say information on this case, at least so far, has been hard to come by.

"We have some witnesses that have been very cooperative. However, some of the key witnesses are giving conflicting stories so we're trying to sort through all the information they've given us to find out exactly what happened," said police spokeswoman Sgt. Cristy Hamblin.

Police can only describe the suspect as a black man with dreadlocks wearing a dark-colored shirt.

They believe he ran from the scene.

They also don't know whether Mosby lived at the apartment complex or somewhere else.
