Mulder advances to 800 meter final at USA Championships


EUGENE, Ore. - Senior Tyler Mulder advanced to the finals in the men's 800 meter race Friday evening at the 2009 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. The Orange City, Iowa native clocked in at 1:47.95, the sixth fastest semifinal time.

Nicholas Symmonds clocked in the fastest time, finishing in 1:47.50.

Senior Mat Clark finished 13th in the decathlon standings, finishing with 5,669 total points. Nike's Trey Hardee took the decathlon crown with 8,261 points.

Cory Goos recorded a time of 53.02 in the 400-meter hurdles but failed to make the semifinal round.

The USA Championships are comprised of the United State's best track and field athletes as they vie for the opportunity to represent Team USA this August at the International Association of Athletics Federations

(IAAF) World Championships in Berlin, Germany. The top three finishes in event will earn the honor to represent Team USA.

Mulder will run in the finals of the 800 Sunday at 1:53 p.m. (PST). Ehi Oamen will also compete for the Panthers on Sunday in the men's high jump, beginning at 11:45 a.m. (PST).
