Judge orders company to pay city nearly $300,000

MUSCATINE, Iowa (AP) -- A judge has ordered a waste disposal company to pay the city of Muscatine nearly $300,000 in unpaid bills to a city-owned landfill.

Court documents say L&M Waste Systems owes just over $290,300 to the landfill. Muscatine has had issues with the company not paying its bills for the past 10 years.

An attorney for the city says his office served L&M Waste Systems with a notice of the past due bill and it didn't respond. A judge then ordered the company to pay the full amount, plus court costs

L&M has not been allowed to dump waste at a city-owned transfer station or landfill since January.
