Dogs trained to detect diabetes

GREAT BRITAIN (NBC) -- Doctors in Great Britain are training dogs to warn diabetic people when their blood sugar levels are too low.

Dogs are known to have powerful sniffers.  Some have even been trained to detect cancer cells.

This latest idea arose after diabetes patients said that when their blood sugar would drop dangerously low, their dogs would react by panting, licking, whining or barking.

Now animal trainers in southern England are working with dogs that will eventually be paired with diabetic owners, many of whom are children.
