$15 Million announced for Cedar Rapids Courthouse

CEDAR RAPIDS (NEWS RELEASE) -- Dave Loebsack announced that the United States General Services Administration is awarding $15,031,393 for Ryan Companies of Cedar Rapids to begin construction of the new federal courthouse in Cedar Rapids.

"For more than a decade, Cedar Rapids has needed a new courthouse and I am pleased to announce further funding that will provide Iowans a new, modern, and safe courthouse facility," said Congressman Loebsack. "This funding represents a critical step toward revitalizing and increasing development in downtown Cedar Rapids. I was pleased to work with Senator Harkin and Senator Grassley to secure the funding necessary for this project."

The original courthouse in Cedar Rapids was built in 1931. As Cedar Rapids grew, and continues to grow, so has the need for a new, more secure and modern courthouse. Last year, Congressman Loebsack worked with Senators Harkin and Grassley to secure $182 million for the construction of the new facility and today's contract award represents the first installment of those funds.
