Storm damages hog confinement near Dike

DIKE (KWWL) -- 200 sows are safe after a possible tornado ripped apart a building at a hog confinement.

Manager Jim Jones was on duty at the Dudden family farms near Dike when he spotted a funnel cloud. He took shelter and was able to stay safe, but the newest facilty on the farm was severely damaged.

While the damage will likely take time to repair, owners are thankful their family and friends are safe.

"A human life cannot be replaced but a building can be," Stacie Dudden said.

Owners say the steel grates separating the pigs were able to spare the animals from most of the debris. A few pigs suffered some wounds, but all 200 are expected to live.

Dozens of neighbors and friends gathered soon after the storm passed through to help clean up debris.
