WATERLOO (KWWL) Golf clubs were swinging in memory of Todd Western Junior.

"A lot of friends and family and a lot of co-workers and they really loved and respected him and we just want to remember Dad and have a good time together," said son Chris Western.

Todd Western worked for John Deere for more than 40 years in the Heat Treat Department.

Family and co-workers said he believed in being a team player and often participated in company sponsored events like golf.

"My dad was very big into golfing. He played in numerous tournaments at John Deere throughout his 41 years there. We just wanted to carry on the type of things he enjoyed," said son Adam Western.

The Western family plans to turn this golf outing into a yearly event. The proceeds will benefit two scholarship foundations: one at Hawkeye Community College and one at the University of Northern Iowa.

"He loved to reach back and help people, those that are aspiring and that's why we gave two scholarships in his name. He loved machines. He loved to make them work better. He loved to know how they worked, so that's why we gave it out in industrial technology," said son Todd Western III.

More than 100 people participated in this year's Todd Western Memorial Golf Tournament.

Sons Todd, Chris and Adam Western said it's a fitting way to honor their late father on this Father's Day weekend.
