Diabetes and young adults

Young adults who exercise are less likely to develop diabetes by the time they're middle-aged.

Northwestern University researchers studied data on thousands of people who were followed from their 20's through their 40's and 50's.

Those with low aerobic fitness levels were were 2 to 3 times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes as they aged, compared with those who were more physically active.

The biggest predictor of diabetes risk, however, was a higher body mass index.
