Agriprocessors attorneys seek to move trial

POSTVILLE (AP)--Attorneys have presented their arguments in an effort to move the criminal case against an Iowa kosher slaughterhouse.

Defense attorneys told a federal judge on Thursday that negative publicity against Agriprocessors Inc. makes it impossible to seat an impartial jury in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids.

Prosecutors say the defense failed to show the publicity has been so extensive that a fair jury can't be selected.

Judge Linda Reade says she'll issue a ruling as soon a possible.

Immigration agents raided the plant in Postville in May 2008 and arrested 389 people, most from Mexico and Guatemala.

Agriprocessors, the plant's former manager, Sholom Rubashkin, and three other former plant managers face a 142-count indictment, which includes immigration violations and fraud.
