New rules to get an Iowa driver's license

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL)--There will soon be new rules to get an Iowa driver's license.

The Iowa Transportation Commission approved amendments last week on regulations regarding the documents people need to prove their identity.

Officials will no longer be able to accept just an out-of-state driver's license as proof.

Other documents such as a birth certificate, certificates of naturalization, military identification or a valid U.S. passport will be needed as well.

Kim Snook, of the office of driver services, says states differ on what is needed to prove a person's identity or citizenship.

Snook says the new rules are aimed at reducing possible fraud.
