Nissan of Dubuque opens new showroom

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- For the last few weeks we've heard bad news from the auto industry. First it was problems at Chrysler, Pontiac, then General Motors. But for one dealer in Dubuque, it's all about good news and expansion.

Tuesday marked a new beginning for Kruse-Warthan Auto Plaza in Dubuque; a ribbon cutting for a new showroom and a sign of hope for the auto industry.

Amidst the auto crisis - Doug Warthan of Dubuque is marching to a different beat. Tuesday afternoon the Dubuque Colts Cadets and the Chamber welcome a new Nissan showroom and service department.

"I believe if you take care of your customers that there's no economy or perception, any news that'll effect market share," said Warthan.

With several lines, including BMW, Pontiac, Hyundai and Nissan, Warthan has seen the effects of the auto crisis.

"Disappointed we had to lose pontiac but if that had to happen to save general motors we're willing ot make that sacrifice. But the 3 brands we have are strong and here to stay," said Warthan.

And other dealers in the area are seeing the effects.

"There is a lot of challenges in the auto industry nationwide as we know. And we have some Dubuque dealers that are also impacted," said Bob Peacock, Chamber Board of Directors.

But Tuesday marked a turning point; a sign of change.

"There were many years where we were the exception but not in a positive way, have changed that," said Peacock.

And it's a change that is setting and example: that the beat goes on.

Nissan of Dubuque has been here for several years, in fact the previous showroom was built in the 1960's. Warthan says this new showroom is state of the art, offering more for customers and hopefully setting an example for the future.
