Rockwell Automation to close Sumner plant

SUMNER (KWWL) -- Rockwell Automation announced Tuesday it will close its Sumner manufacturing plant, affecting 163 employees.

The company says the plant will close by December 2010 and work and resources will be transitioned to plants in Wisconsin and Mexico.

Rockwell Automation also announced it will close a plant in Dublin, Georgia, affecting an additional 145 employees.

In a statement released to the media, the company says performance was not a factor in the decision.

"Our Sumner employees have contributed to the success of the company, which made this a difficult decision," said Marty Thomas, senior vice president, Operations and Engineering Services. "The cost challenges we face are significant. Accordingly, we must close some of our production locations."

The Sumner plant opened in 1995 and produces finished goods for Rockwell Automation.
