Kernels drop 3rd straight on Bark at the Park day


June 7, 2009 - The Burlington Bees struck for six runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 9-5 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Sunday afternoon in front of 2,300 sun-drenched fans at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Bees got to Kernels starter Tyler Chatwood (5-2) for six runs (five earned) on five hits and knocked Chatwood from the game before the end of the inning. Kernels reliever Jeremy Thorne did a yeoman's job, holding the Bees to an unearned run on three hits over 5.1 innings of relief.

The Kernels cut the Burlington lead to 6-4 after two innings. Alexi Amarista went 3 for 5 with two doubles and an RBI and Beau Brooks was 2 for 3 with a triple and 2 RBI. Roberto Lopez went 2 for 4 and Angel Castillo and Anel De Los Santos added an RBI each.

Burlington starter Michael Lehmann (2-1) had plenty of cushion to work with as he allowed four runs on eight hits over five innings for the win. Manauris Baez worked four innings of relief for his first save. Jarrod Dyson went 3 for 5 with an RBI and two runs scored and David Wood was 2-5 with a HR and 2 RBI.

The Kernels and Bees play on Monday, June 8th at 6:35 pm. Its Million Dollar Monday, presented by Perfect Game USA and Pepsi, and if the Kernels throw a perfect game, one lucky fan wins one million dollars. Fans still win, as once the perfect game is broken, regular hot dogs, 12 oz. draft beer and bottled soda are $1 the rest of the game. Gates open at 5:30 pm.
