DES MOINES (AP) -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says Republicans are stepping up their attacks on her because they're frustrated by accomplishments that majority Democrats have forged in Congress.
Speaking Saturday with reporters after a roundtable discussion on education at a Des Moines middle school, Pelosi says Republicans criticize her because they don't agree with the direction Democrats are taking the nation. Republicans have been especially critical about statements Pelosi has made about her knowledge of CIA interrogation techniques that many see as torture.
She shrugged off the complaints, saying Republicans were trying to distract attention from Democratic accomplishments.
Pelosi also attended a Democratic fundraiser during her trip to Des Moines.
